Don’t panic when you hear the sirens

Dec. 11 emergency drill scheduled for Camden, Rockport schools

Tue, 12/10/2019 - 8:15pm

On the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 11, the public schools in Camden and Rockport (Camden Hills Regional High School, Camden-Rockport Middle and Elementary schools) will be conducting a joint emergency drill that begins at the high school and includes an offsite reunification at the Pitch on Route 90 in Warren.

The drill will involve the staff from Camden Hills, Camden Rockport Middle, and Camden Rockport Elementary schools as well as local emergency personnel.

The drill is primarily designed to practice how the district would reunify parents and students should they need to evacuate one or all of the schools in both districts in a true emergency. This is often one of the most chaotic and neglected aspects of emergency planning.

No students will be participating in the drill. Staff will be designated to role-play "students" and "parents." The high school will be closed from 11:30 a.m to – 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the entrance gate will be locked from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

There will be sirens, fire, police and emergency vehicles involved in this drill both at the high school and at the Pitch, so community members may notice some commotion on Rt. 90 that afternoon.

Do not panic or worry should you see or hear response to this drill that will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m.
