FRIENDSHIP — David Adams Hovell died at his home in Friendship during October at age 82. He was born on July 30, 1939, the son of the late Winifred Paterson Hovell and David A. Hovell from Bloomfield, New Jersey.

David was a graduate of Columbia University and retired as an architectural designer from the New York firm, Goldhammer, Wittenstein and Good. He was also an ordained Presbyterian Elder, though cherished his long association with the Methodist Church in Friendship and later his retirement congregation at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rockland.

David loved to cook and created an excellent pot-roast! He and his partner/husband, David, of 48 years went on many tours and cruises together, once taking a Gastronomic Tour of Spain, eating and drinking their way through the countryside.

During their retirement in Friendship “the Davids” were interested in the Historical Society, classical music, the garden tour of historical homes. David H. loved plants and was a member of the Orchid Society in New York. Together, they raised cats and loved dogs. David H. was an avid Democrat and occasional delegate to State Conventions.

Mr. Hovell was predeceased by his beloved partner, David C. Frost, an associate director of copy editing from the Free Press division of Simon and Schuster, in New York. Mr. Frost copy edited RN, working daily with former President Richard Nixon, at his home in San Clemente, for 10 months.

David was very proud of his Scottish heritage and is survived by his cousin and only relative, Derrick Smith, of Scotland. A Scottish piper, Patrick Walsh, of Cushing, will honor that heritage, in full kilt, at the Memorial Service.

Additionally, David is survived by friends Karen and John Meyn of Friendship, Clare Williams and family of Pennsylvania, Paul Grew of Friendship and Pennsylvania, and David Jones, who will scatter Mr. Hovell’s ashes at Hatchett Cove, off Martin’s Point in the spring, as he did for David Frost.
