JEFFERSON — Cynthia Hennessey, 73, passed away peacefully Jan. 27, 2014, at her home in Jefferson. She was born Oct. 12,1940, in Augusta to Theodore and Florida Cook Lewin.

She grew up in a military family and they lived in Virginia, South Carolina and eventually in Maine. She graduated from Cony High School in Augusta. After high school she attended a radio and television school in Massachusetts.

Cynthia married Richard Hennessey and they lived in several towns in Maine, following Richard's career as a game warden. They eventually settled down in the town of Jefferson, where Cynthia worked as the town clerk, tax collector and treasurer. She also owned and operated the Video Ventures store in Jefferson. Cynthia and Richard retired in 2003.

She bowled in the Depatsy's Lanes Bowling League in Waldoboro for many years. Cynthia loved the outdoors and wildlife. She especially loved birds such as blue birds and Canada geese. She spent a lot of time gardening and would harvest vegetables for the family to eat. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandsons, as she was a very caring grandmother. She was a very polite and loving woman and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Hennessey; and by a daughter, Kathleen Hennessey. Cynthia is survived by her son, Daniel Hennessey of Jefferson; her brother, Rear Adm. Theodore Lewin and his wife, Janet, of Virginia; her grandchildren, Parker Hennessey and Jarrett Hennessey of Cushing and Cody Chase of Whitefield; and her cousin, Howard Cook of Manchester.

A graveside service to celebrate Cynthia's life will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson, to be announced.
