ROCKPORT — Colleen Kinney, residing at 14 Deer Lane in Rockport, died at home of cancer on June 21, 2022. She is survived by her son, Michael Kinney; her ex-husband, Rick Greene; her dogs Harley and Gracie and her cat Alice.

Colleen was born April 3, 1957 and grew up in Taunton and later Hyannis, Massachusetts with her parents, Richard and Rita (Sheehy) Goldrick. She graduated with a BA in Social Work from Bridgewater State College in 1979 and completed a Masters program in Social Work from Boston College in 1985. Later she became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Colleen lived in Massachusetts until she moved to Maine in 2014 where she worked as a hospice social worker at the Sussman House and as program director for Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers.

Colleen loved to hike, garden, read, knit, cook, explore nature and learn about spirituality. She had a deep affection for animals of all kinds and they were drawn to her as to a magnet.

In the few short years she lived in Maine, Colleen made an enormous impression professionally and personally. Colleagues and friends have often remarked on her ability to defuse even the most tense situations involving families in pain at the death of a loved one.

Colleen was passionate about her work, her family and her friendships. All of us who knew and loved her can attest to the steely determination beneath her soft spoken demeanor. Her warm, caring nature came across to people almost immediately but when Colleen was displeased or strongly disagreed, her flashing eyes spoke volumes. “The look” often ended all debate.

Colleen’s kindness, generosity of spirit and expressiveness will be deeply missed. She was a rare and beautiful woman.

Colleen’s family will remember her life privately. To share a memory or condolence with them, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
