Burnham convicted sex offender arrested for possessing child pornography
BURNHAM — Maine State Police arrested a convicted sex offender Sept. 8 and charged him with possessing child pornography.
Police acted on a tip, according to a press release Friday, and conducted a search Thursday of 59-year-old David Cook’s home on Horseback Road in Burnham. The search was conducted by members of the State Police Computer Crimes Unit and U.S. Homeland Security.
According to the release, an initial search of Cook’s computer allegedly showed images of child pornography, and Cook was arrested and charged with possessing sexually explicit material.
Cook was taken to Waldo County jail.
His computer was seized, and Crime Lab investigators plan to do a more thorough examination of it.
According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, Cook was convicted in 1990 of rape and gross sexual misconduct of someone under the age of 14 and sentenced to six years in prison. Cook is also required to register for the rest of his life with the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
