Belfast Maskers accepting one act submissions from Maine playwrights
Submissions are now open for the second annual Maine Playwrights One Act Festival, celebrating the voices and visions of playwrights living throughout the state of Maine. The festival will be presented June 4 - 14, 2026, at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court Street in Belfast, Maine.
The four to-be-selected plays will be directed by Maci Burgess, Tyler Johnstone, Ivy Lobato, and Gwen Sauvage, who will select casts from volunteer actors who will audition in the spring.
The festival’s first weekend will feature cabaret-style seating with wine, cheese, soft drinks, and more, while the following weekend will be presented with traditional theater seating. The writers of the four chosen plays will receive $150 in royalties and a complimentary ticket to a performance during the second weekend of performances. If a ticket to the first weekend’s cabaret-style seating is preferred, the value of a normal-seating ticket will be comped and only the difference will be due, according to Belfast Maskers, in a news release.
Those interested in submitting a One Act play for consideration are encouraged to visit www.BelfastMaskers.com for full submission guidelines and instructions on how to apply.
The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2026.
