Ashwood Waldorf School celebrates 40 years in Midcoast Maine
Event Date
Saturday, October 03, 2026 - 02:00 pm to 05:00 pm
ROCKPORT — Ashwood Waldorf School will mark its 40th anniversary with a community celebration on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 2 - 5 p.m., at the school’s Rockport campus.
The celebration will bring together current and former students, families, faculty, alumni, and friends for an afternoon of music, activities, memories, and community. The event is open to the wider community, and those who have been part of Ashwood at any point in its history are especially invited to return and celebrate.
Ashwood began in 1986 as an initiative of several Midcoast Maine families interested in Waldorf education. Its first kindergarten opened that year in a small cabin in Lincolnville Center.
A second kindergarten opened in Rockport in 1990. The following year, the Rockport site became Ashwood’s main campus when a combined first- and second-grade class marked the beginning of the school’s grade-school program.
Today, Ashwood serves children from early childhood through eighth grade and draws families from communities throughout the Midcoast, from Brooks to Newcastle.
Ashwood is part of the international Waldorf education movement, which began with the founding of the first Waldorf school in Germany in 1919. Waldorf education has since grown into an international movement with schools around the world.
Ashwood Waldorf School’s 40th Anniversary Celebration will take place Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2–5 p.m. at the school’s campus in Rockport. The afternoon will include music, activities, opportunities to reconnect and share memories, and a celebration of the community that has shaped Ashwood over four decades.
