April courses for career improvements at Rockland CareerCenter

ROCKLAND — The Rockland CareerCenter, part of the Maine Department of Labor, and in conjunction with its partners, offers a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills, and employers to find qualified workers.

Each of the 12 statewide CareerCenters provides public-access computer workstations equipped with Microsoft Office, resume writing and cover letter software. In addition, CareerCenters provide internet access and O-Net software for individual skills assessment.

Employers can list their open positions on the Maine Job Link and take advantage of our on-line matching system which identifies and refers job candidates. All CareerCenter services are provided free of charge to employers and job-seeking customers.

The following services and programs are free to the public and will be held at the CareerCenter in Rockland, 91 Camden St., Suite 201, unless otherwise noted.

All services/events require appointments or pre-registration in person or by phone at 596-2600 unless an alternative number is listed.

Career Directions — Explore your career interests, aptitudes, values, personality, and motivations, and see how they connect to today’s job market. By appointment. 

Resume and Cover Letter Writing — Learn the basics of how to create an effective resume and cover letter. By appointment.

Effective Interviewing Skills — Ideas to make your next job interview more effective. By appointment.

Planning Your Job Search — Tips and ideas for a successful job search in today’s labor market. By appointment.

Computer Boot Camp — To introduce computer basics to people who have never used one before. By appointment.

Vocational Rehabilitation Orientation — Introduction to services for jobseekers who have a disability that makes it difficult to obtain or keep a job. By appointment. Call 596-2641.

Training Information — For details about training in various occupations, call our partner agency Workforce Solutions at 930-7047. Eligibility requirements apply.

Employer services — To learn about no-cost services including Hiring Assistance and Training Workers, and for help with Labor Law, Layoffs, and Workplace Health and Safety. By phone call to 596-2600, or by appointment.

New Ventures Maine offers no-cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities.
