Alvin Lee Oxton, obituary
VINALHAVEN —Alvin Lee Oxton, 66, died Dec. 17, 2013, on Vinalhaven. Born in Vinalhaven Oct. 20, 1947, he was the son of Arthur and Geneva (Gray) Oxton. On Sept. 14, 1968, he married Linda Warren.
Alvin has worked as a commercial fisherman for many years with Capt. Ronnie Walker, his two sons and with his own lobster boat. He enjoyed hunting and playing cards and was a former vice president and long-time member of the Vinalhaven Rod and Gun Club. Alvin was very devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Oxton; his stepfather, Henry Gross; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Alice Warren; and a brother, Arthur "Pumpkin" Oxton.
Surviving is his mother, Geneva Gross; his wife of 45 years, Linda Warren Oxton; three children, Leslie Romer and her husband, Mike, Timothy Oxton and his wife, Colette, and Lee Oxton; four grandchildren, Kendra Romer and her boyfriend, Joby Philbrook, Courtney Lewis and her husband, Mike, Ivy Oxton and Autumn Oxton; three sisters, Frances Philbrook, Bonnie Davis and her husband, Eric, and Hazel Philbrook; two brothers, George Gross and Carl Gross; a sister-in-law, Barbara Philbrook; and several nieces and nephews.
An hour of visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to noon, immediately followed by a funeral at Pleasant River Chapel with Elder Robert Candage officiating. Private burial will be held at Brown's Head Cemetery.
