SOUTH THOMASTON — Alice J. Baum Robinson, 92, died peacefully with her family at her side June 9, 2013, following a period of declining health at Woodlands Memory Care Center in Rockland.

Born in South Thomaston April 26, 1921, she was the daughter of Joseph T. Baum Sr. and Flora Jackson Baum. Educated locally she was a 1938 graduate of Rockland High School, and later earned an associates degree from Westbrook Junior College in 1940.

Following high school, Alice began her 29-year career as a secretary for Dr. Wesley N. Wasgatt, working for him until 1973. She later worked at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport from the time of that hospital's opening in 1975, retiring from the business office in 1983.

On Dec. 27, 1947, she married William H. Robinson in South Thomaston. Together they made their home in South Thomaston, where Alice was an active member of the community. She served for many years as treasurer of the Wessaweskeag Historical Society, was an active member of the Peoples United Methodist Church in South Thomaston, a member of the Spruce Head Community Club, treasurer and member of United Methodist Women's Club, and member of the former Rockland Junior Women's Club and Pen Bay Medical Center Auxiliary. Following her husband's death, she moved to Patten Point in Spruce Head, where she has since resided.

For more than 50 years Alice was a member of the Ivy Chapter #16 OES in Warren.

Always one to be active, Alice enjoyed volunteering at the Knox Center for Long Term Care and with the Farnsworth Guild, volunteering her time in the summers at the Olsen House in Cushing.

Alice also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often making crafts for the United Methodist Women's fairs.

Predeceased by her husband in 1978; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Grover Roberson and Joan and Benjamin Smith; she is survived by her brother, Joseph T. 'Bud' Baum and his wife, Verna, of South Thomaston; her step-daughter, Jacqueline Kinsman of Redding, Mass.; her nieces and nephews, Dale 'Chipper' Roberson and his wife, Cindy, of Connecticut, Bonnie Riddle and her husband, Donald, of North Carolina, Brenda B. Calderwood and Marcia B. Whitten, both of South Thomaston, Joseph T. Baum III and his wife, Lynda, of Spruce Head, Pamela S. Boland her husband, Thomas, and Glen Smith of Massachusetts; many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many great great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Woodlands Memory Care Center in Rockland for their wonderful care and support of Alice over the last four years of her life.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at People's United Methodist Church on Chapel Street in South Thomaston. The Rev. Michelle Wiley will officiate.

Interment will follow at Village Cemetery in South Thomaston. A reception will follow at the church.
