GILBERT, Ariz. — A former Waldo County field hockey player has been recognized for her high academic achievements as a student-athlete at Thomas College in Waterville. 

Freedom native and Mount View High School alumna Alexis Bowman was honored recently honored as a Scholar of Distinction through the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction program. 

The program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Bowman, a sophomore and sports management major, is one of two field hockey players to receive the accolade this season at Thomas.

She is also one of 321 student-athletes playing Division III field hockey across the nation to receive the accolade this season.
