2019 Lobster Festival recap: Community (and lobster) at the Heart of it All

ROCKLAND — Three large tubs of cole slaw per day. Twenty-three thousand pounds of lobster cooked between Wednesday lunch and Saturday night – with Sunday still to come.

Despite an overly friendly equine and a couple of vehicles motoring on their very last legs during the annual parade, the 72nd Maine Lobster Festival soared through with no major catastrophes.

No Ferris Wheel or super large slide this year, but other play toys easily filled the void. Pirate tours and demonstrations, Coast Guard tours, crate races, cod fish carrying, children’s lobster-eating contest, running races and diaper derby carried forth with zest. And in between, as always, the focus returned to the food itself.
