Warren and Rockport drivers killed in Warren crash Monday morning
WARREN — A three-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Warren Monday morning claimed the lives of a male driver from Warren and a female driver from Rockport.
Deputies from Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash on Route 1, near the intersection of Stirling Road at around 6:20 a.m. on May 1.
According to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll in a press release, a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Kenneth Chipman III of Warren was traveling northbound on Route 1 when he crossed the centerline “apparently, for a reason not known at this time.”
Chipman’s 2017 Toyota sedan collided with a southbound 2007 Toyota sports utility vehicle being driven by Evan Aurelio, 32, of Winterport, along the driver’s side, causing it to spin around. Chipman’s sedan then struck a 2008 Land Rover SUV, head-on, which was behind Aurelio’s vehicle and being driven by Cheryl Brimson, 67, of Rockport. Her husband, John Brimson, 68, was a passenger in the vehicle.
Chipman and Cheryl Brimson were killed instantly in the crash, according to Carroll. John Brimson was taken to the hospital by Warren Ambulance, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Carroll said that Aurelio was checked at the scene by EMS personnel and released after being interviewed.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office’s response team was on site mapping and reconstructing the crash to try to determine a cause. The road remained closed most of the morning while the accident remained under investigation.
Warren and Waldoboro Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
