Man accused of Rockland kidnapping now facing charges for stealing lobsters
AUGUSTA — A Portland man who was arrested Sept. 29 on charges of kidnapping after he allegedly attacked a woman in Rockland, choked her unconscious and then eluded police, has now been charged by the Maine Marine Patrol for allegedly stealing lobsters from a dealer in Harpswell a few days before he was apprehended by Rockland police.
Shane Hall, 29, of Portland, was arrested Oct. 17 by the Maine Marine Patrol along with Troy J. Woodman, 34, of Warren after a month-long investigation revealed they allegedly stole 19 crates filled with lobsters from two dealers. The estimated value of the stolen lobsters and crates exceeds $9,000, according to a news release from the Maine Marine Patrol.
Hall has been charged with one count of Class D Theft and one count of Class C theft for allegedly stealing lobsters from Quahog Lobster in Harpswell on September 25 and 27.
Woodman has been charged with one count of Class C theft for allegedly stealing lobsters from Quahog Lobster on Sept. 17. He is also expected to be charged for alleged thefts with the same dealer on Sept. 24, 25, 27, and Oct. 6 at Maggie’s Seafood in South Bristol on Oct. 9 and 16. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail after his arrest, according to the release.
In Maine, Class C crimes carry a penalty of up to 5 years in jail and a fine of $5,000 while Class D crimes are punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a fine of $2,000, according to the Maine Marine Patrol.
Hall has remained at the Knox County Jail since his arrest by Rockland police on Sept. 29 and is being held on $250,000 cash bail. He is facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger and refusing to submit to arrest for allegedly kidnapping a woman as she was walking home after she left work in Rockland.
An investigation into the sale and purchase of the stolen lobsters is ongoing, according to the Maine Marine Patrol.
Hall will be arraigned Dec. 6 in West Bath District Court for the alleged theft charges, according to the Director of Communications of the Maine Department of Marine Resources, Jeff Nichols, by telephone.
His next court appearance in Rockland is Jan. 12, 2017 for a dispositional conference for the alleged kidnapping charges on Sept. 29.
