Drivers identified in three-car Route 17 crash in Rockport

ROCKPORT — Route 17 in Rockport, near the intersection of Porter Street and Green Thumb nursery, was re-opened to traffic around 3:55 p.m. Thursday, following a three-car crash.
At the scene, a 2005 Ford pickup truck being driven by 71-year-old David Smith of Hope was heading east on Route 17 when the driver of a 2015 Toyota sedan, 73-year-old Susan Crane of Owls Head, slowed to turn left onto Porter Street. Smith reportedly looked down for a moment, and when he looked up, Crane’s car was either slowing or stopped and he rear-ended it. Her Toyota was then pushed into oncoming traffic, where it crashed head-on into another Toyota, a 2005 sedan being driven by Angela Lundgren, 66, of Hackensack, N.J.
Rockport police, the fire department and North East Mobile Health ambulance crews responded to the scene, where the accident occurred. Route 17 had to be closed for about 40 minutes, while Crane, who was trapped inside her vehicle, had to be extricated with special equipment. She sustained a compound leg fracture, according to police. Lundgren sustained a possible fractured wrist, and Tom Morris, 64, of Hackensack, N.J., who was a passenger in Lundgren’s car, was also transported to the hospital with injuries. All three were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Smith was uninjured, according to police.
Rockport officer Dana Smith, who continues to investigate the accident, said Thursday night that charges are possible.
