SCARBOROUGH — On Thursday, March 31, the Camden Hills Regional High School Band, under the direction of Nancy Rowe, earned a Gold Award at the Maine Band Director Association Concert Band Festival.

The ensemble scored 96 out of 100 possible points in the following criteria: Performance fundamentals, technical preparation, musical effect, programming/presentation and sight-reading.

The three adjudicators gave the ensemble a superior rating in nearly all criteria as well as a perfect score in sight-reading.

A superior rating means that the performance category was outstanding in nearly every aspect and detail. A "Gold" rating is awarded to those bands receiving a combined average score between 90 and 100 meaning that the ensemble "exceeded the standards of musical performance."

The CHRHS Band, along with the Jazz Band, will be performing Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at the annual Spring Band Concert. Admission to the concert is free.
