A weekend of holiday happenings, right at your fingertips




If you're looking for something to do this weekend to brighten your holiday spirit, following is a list of shows and events around the Midcoast for Dec. 7-9.
Looking for a book to curl up with by the fire this weekend? Head over to the Belfast Free Library holiday book sale and peruse the gently used titles, for yourself or for holiday giving. The sale is Friday, from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. FMI: Holiday Book Sale.
If you're feeling hungry, thirsty and shoppy, the Good Kettle in hosting a holiday wine tasting Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and Aarhus Gallery will have a chocolate tasting, music and Maine-made crafts and gifts Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Waterfall Arts is the place for the HANDMADE Art+Craft Show from 5 to 8 p.m. FMI: Holiday Wine Tasting, Chocolate-Art-Music and HANDMADE Art+Craft.
The Thomaston Historical Society holds its annual fundraiser this weekend at the Capt. Samuel Watts House on Knox Street. Friday will include a preview reception, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday is the open house, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A silent auction will be ongoing both days. FMI: Home for the Holidays.
For the art set, there is the Arts in Rockland silent auction at Yvette Torres Fine Art during the First Friday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. and a celebration of the holidays as part of the final First Friday Belfast Art Walk of the season will be at High Street Studio & Gallery from 5:30 to 8 p.m. FMI: First Friday Art Rockland and First Friday Art Belfast.
Want to see a holiday movie or theater production? The Friends of Thomaston Public Library present a free showing of "A Christmas Without Snow" Friday at 6:30 p.m. Searsport high school and middle school students are staging "Nightmare Before Christmas" Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Belfast Maskers are bringing "Three Wise Men of Spider Creek" to Belfast Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. FMI: Christmas Without Snow, Nightmare Before Christmas and Three Wise Men.
Newcastle is an hour from Belfast and 35-40 minutes from Rockland and Camden, but for fans of chamber choirs and holiday music, the St. Cecilia Chamber Choir concert Friday night at 7:30 should do just fine. In addition to carols and anthems, there will be poetry and scripture readings, and a special candle lighting ceremony. FMI: St. Cecilia Chamber Choir.
Saturday morning in Lincolnville, from 9 to noon, the Community Library hosts the annual holiday market in Lincolnville Center. Locally made crafts, photography, produce, baked goods, maple syrup and more will be on sale. FMI: Holiday Market.
Too busy to wrap your gifts? The Camden and Belfast Rotary Interact students and P.A.W.S. staff will be on hand at Loyal Biscuit in both communities with plenty of tape, paper and bows Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit P.A.W.S. Adoption Center. FMI: Gift Wrapping.
Head out to Union town Saturday and Sunday for the Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery's annual Holiday Bazaar, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local food for tasting and pairing with wines and spirits, as well as offerings from local craft artisans. FMI: Union Holiday Bazaar.
Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm in Unity is offering holiday fun with their herd, including tours, demonstrations, hot cider, alpaca cookies and more. The open house is Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. FMI: Northern Solstice Alpacas.
Saturday at dusk is the beginning of Hanukkah, and the Adas Yoshuron Synagogue in Rockland will host its annual Community Chanukah Party at Watts Hall in Thomaston from 5 to 9 p.m. Singing, dancing, and a hot supper, along with a menorah lighting with Rabbi Margalit. FMI: Community Chanukah Party.
Who knew Santa could skate? Well he does, and he will Saturday night at MRC during the Staking Association of Maine's Celebration on Ice from 5 to 7 p.m. FMI: Celebration on Ice.
There will be music and singing at the Rockland Public Library Sunday at 3 p.m., when pianist Sjourner Hodges and and banjo player Peter Proeller lead a Holiday Sing-Along. Refreshments provided, but bring a cushion to sit on as seating is limited. FMI: Holiday Sing-Along.
