The spirit of Christmas lives in Noah Ames

THOMASTON - Noah Ames lobsters out of Matinicus. Last year on this date, Noah parked his truck, filled with Maine lobsters, at Midcoast Marine Supply at 153 New County Road in Thomaston and handed them out free of charge to anyone requesting one, or three, or more. It was a bad year for Ames, but it didn’t stop his spirit of giving.
Ames said he felt good about what he was doing, but more important was how his children felt about it.
“We needed to show them that it was OK to give back,” said Ames. “And the community, it helps the community. It such a strong community anyway.”
Ames said he especially wanted to thank the Atwood Lobster Company.
“They donated a crate of lobsters this year,” he said. “They’ve also helped the community throughout the year. They just donated $1,000 to a little boy who just got a heart.”
Ames said one of his crew was on the team that raised the money for the family.
“They’ve raise $14,800 as of yesterday, so the family could stay in Boston and be close to their son. And it’s still going, it’s all about community around here and I’m just happy to pitch in.”
Ames said he decided to repeat the giveaway this year for a couple of reasons. One was because there was a good response and the kids loved it, but there was a special second reason.
“My boat sank last winter,” he said, “so it was really tough for me this spring and it reminded me that things can get pretty tough, pretty quick. We turned the year around, so here we are.
District 12 State Senator Dave Mirimant presented a Legislative Sentiment to Noah Ames and his family and crew. The Sentiment was from Mirimant, Rep. Beebe-Center, and the State of Maine acknowledging Noah Ames for his concern about folks being hungry and his example of generosity and community building.
Mirimant expressed his thanks as he presented the proclamation.
"We thank you Noah, your family, and everyone who helped make this
possible, he said. “It inspires us all to reach out with generosity and kindness.
That is a great gift for the holidays and year round!"
God bless Noah Ames and his spirit of community. And a wonderful Merry Christmas to all.
