Valecia Harriman, obituary
ROCKLAND — Valecia Elaine Harriman, 54, wife of Duane Carr, suffered a massive heart attack at home in Rockland, and died June 4, 2015.
Born March 17, 1961, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of Jesse Wilson and Roberta Taylor Harriman.
Valecia grew up at the family farm on Old Portland Road in Brunswick and graduated from Brunswick High School, a member of the Class of 1979. She was a long-time communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, sang in the church choir and served on various committees. Valecia learned dressage as a girl and competed in regional horse shows. She enjoyed lobstering at Dyer's Cove in Harpswell, where her father docked his boat.
On Dec. 28, 2002, Valecia married Duane Carr at St. Peter's Church in Rockland, where she attended after she moved from Brunswick. She was active in United Bikers of Maine, American Legion Post #1, Rockland, and was a member of Rockland Elks Club #1008.
Valecia is survived by her husband, Duane of Rockland; her siblings, Jesse W. Harriman Jr. of Richmond, John A. Dunning Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Guerndt, of Orlando, Fla., William S. Dunning and his wife, Patricia Daunis, of Brunswick, Charlotte Dunning Burgess and her husband, James, of Providence, R.I., and Limington, and Fern Dunning-Thoits and her husband, Peter, of Gray. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Michael Carr and his wife, Jaime, and Joseph Carr of Florida; her grandchildren, Jaxon, Ethan, Brycen and Ziva; her beloved dog, Sherm; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, where a celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 12 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Lael Sorensen will officiate.
