Vose selected to MWBCA All-State Second Team






BIDDEFORD – University of New England junior standout and former Medomak Valley star Alanna Vose has been named to the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-State Second Team.
Vose helped lead the Nor’easters to their third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference championship this season.
In 30 games this season Vose averaged 26.2 minutes per game with 13.5 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals. Vose also had 10 blocks on the season. Vose also set a UNE single season record tallying 83 3-pointers, while also shooting at an 81 percent clip from the foul line.
Her biggest game points wise was January 13, against Western New England when she scored 29 points. 21 of the 30 games saw Vose in double digit scoring. Her best run was in February. In four games from Feb. 17 - 26 Vose had games with 18, 22, 24 and 27 points respectively.
Vose was also named to the CCC second team all conference team Feb. 23. On March 2, Vose was named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week for the period ending March 1. Her second time during the 2014-15 season.
This was a breakout season for Vose who in her first two seasons at UNE scored 397 points. This season she scored 406 points to bring her total to 803 points with one more season to go to hit the 1000 point mark.
MWBCA Year End Awards
Bowdoin College senior guard Sara Binkhorst has been chosen as the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Year, while Nina Davenport from Bates College has been selected as the Rookie of the Year. Adrienne Shibles from Bowdoin College was picked as the Coach of the Year.
A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, the 5-7 guard helped lead Bowdoin to a 25-4 record and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The senior tri-captain averaged 14.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game. Binkhorst dished out 95 assists on the year while swiping 34 steals throughout the season.
Binkhorst shot 41 percent from the field, an impressive 41.2 percent from the three point line and 85.4 percent from the free throw line. The senior guard was also named to the All-NESCAC 1st team.
Davenport, a freshman forward from Freeport, Maine, had an immediate impact on the Bobcats season after transferring in second semester from the University of Maine. Davenport was second on the team in scoring (14.7 points per game), and was second on the team in rebounding (5.8 rebounds per game). Davenport became a starter for Bates on January and scored over 20 points in five of her last seven contests including a 34 point effort against Bowdoin.
Shibles collects her fourth MWBCA Coach of The Year award since the 2008-2009 season. Shibles led the Polar Bears to a 25-4 record and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Shibles collects her first 25 win season at Bowdoin and has amassed a 151-47 record in her seven seasons at the helm of the Polar Bears.
