Stone Coast CrossFit fundraiser brings $3,500 for P.A.W.S.
ROCKPORT — On Saturday, Feb. 7 athletes of all abilities got together at Stone Coast CrossFit in Rockport to exercise and raise money for P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center. Thanks to co-owners Nick Brown and Lily Hamill, and some generous participants, P.A.W.S. now has almost $3,500 in its capital campaign coffers to help build a doggie exercise yard at its new location in Camden, according to a news release.
Top fundraiser for the day was Candy Hutchison, mother of P.A.W.S. executive director Amie Hutchison, who brought in more than $700, and delivered homemade baked goods to tempt participants and volunteers alike.
Hilary Rackliff of Moonshine Herbals was on hand to offer samples of her skin care products when she wasn't working out herself. And Fox on the Run chef and owner Lauren Jellison delivered pizzas and sandwiches in time to feed everyone and participate in the final heat of the day.
The Rock Coast Rollers were represented at Muscles For Mutts by Hedda Flame (a.k.a. Brionna Barton) who was happy to work up a sweat in a different kind of event to help out P.A.W.S.
Participant Eric Blumenthal stepped into the role of P.A.W.S.' mascot "Petey" and put everyone else to shame by doing his own workout in full costume.
Josh Watmough of Atlantic Studios provided complimentary M4M tattoos for several top athlete earners to commemorate the event.
