The extraordinary life of Ruth Robertson, April 16
THOMASTON — Patricia Hubbard, of Thomaston, will describe the life and work of Ruth Robertson, a true “female Indiana Jones”, on Wednesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m., at the Thomaston Public Library. The Cushing Public Library is co-sponsoring this collaborative community event, which is free and open to the public.
Born in 1905, Ruth Robertson triumphed over a childhood marked by poverty and many difficulties because she loved adventure, and was determined to live an exciting life. During an era of limited opportunities for women, she achieved many firsts. One of her greatest accomplishments was leading a successful expedition in 1949 through the jungles of Venezuela to Angel Falls, which proved that Angel Falls was the highest waterfall in the world. In Patrician Hubbard’s words, “(h)er story is the archetypal hero’s journey”.
