Icy road blamed for March 19 multiple vehicle crash in Northport
NORTHPORT — On March 19, at approximately 7:26 a.m., Waldo County Regional Communications Center received notification of a multiple vehicle crash on Atlantic Highway in Northport, according to a March 20 media report from the Waldo County Sheriff's Department.
The location of the crash was just north of the Lincolnville town line, near the former entrance to Point Lookout.
Members of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Northport and Lincolnville Fire departments and EMS responded. The initial investigation indicated the crash involved three passenger vehicles and one Isuzu box truck.
Christopher Littlefield, 34, of Belmont, was traveling south on Atlantic Highway when he lost control of his vehicle on a section of roadway that was iced over.
Littlefield’s vehicle impacted the Isuzu box truck that was northbound, being driven by Anthony Bowman, 48, of Waldoboro.
Tracey Hanson, 53, of Rockland was northbound behind Bowman’s box truck.
Misty Moulton, 40, of Belfast, was southbound behind Littlefield’s vehicle.
Both Hanson and Moulton’s vehicles sustained damage from scattered debris that could not be avoided, the release said. Littlefield, Bowman and Hanson were all transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Traffic on Atlantic Highway remained closed for much of the day as the disabled box truck was blocking both lanes of travel.
This investigation remains open at this time; however roadway conditions are believed to be the primary contributing factor.
