Midcoast Community Band holiday concerts
The Midcoast Community Band, led by Jo Anne Parker, will celebrate the holidays with two holiday band concerts in December.
On Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m., the band will play at the St. George Odd Fellows Hall, located at 7 Elementary School Road, St George.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m., the concert will be at the Thomaston Baptist Church, located at 212 Main Street, Thomaston.
Pieces included in the program will be the traditional Leroy Anderson offerings: A Christmas Festival and Sleigh Ride, a joyous O Tannenbaum, A Cartoon Christmas with Rudolph, Frosty, and Christmastime is Here from Charlie Brown, Christmas Star from Home Alone, A Vaughan Williams Christmas, A Stowaway on Santa’s Sleigh, and a traditional carol sing-along for audience participation. Other songs of the season will round out the program, with slight differences in the two concerts.
The Midcoast Community Band has been performing in the Midcoast area for more than 30 years with Jo Anne Parker as leader/conductor. The band plays at civic events, in parades, and at concerts throughout the year. The holiday concerts feature traditional Christmas arrangements, seasonal band music and the ever-popular Carol Sing-Along, accompanied by the full band. The concert is suitable for all ages.
"Both the Odd Fellows Hall and the Thomaston Baptist Church are beautiful traditional spaces in which to experience a band concert, with wonderful acoustics," said Margot Bridgett, in a news release.
The concerts are free of charge. Donations are welcome.
