Bay Chamber offers ukelele workshop for intermediates, Dec. 7
Bay Chamber is offering a ukelele workshop, Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Even if they’ve played for years, ukulele players often feel stuck at the starting line, according to Bay Chamber, in a news release. They call it “perpetual beginner syndrome.” A new Bay Chamber workshop is designed to help players break free and begin to soar.
A 90-minute workshop for intermediate players offers clear steps toward a higher level of playing with a focus on skill building, technique and expression.
“My goal is to give people new tools and modes of thinking. The workshop will teach them to practice in a way that will lead to better music making,” said Jeff Weinberger, a faculty member in ukelele and guitar at Bay Chamber and leader of the workshop.
Participants will learn both the musical elements and attitudes needed to advance on the instrument, techniques that cannot be gained from merely reading about skills online or practicing without clear goals or a creative mindset, Weinberger said.
Workshop participants should know at least four chords and be able to change smoothly from one to another at a modest tempo. They should know how to tune the instrument and be able to play a simple song flawlessly all the way through.
Bay Chamber has a few ukeleles to loan out. Participants must let us know if they need one by Dec. 6. Class size is limited to 10 participants.
