CAMDEN — Armajean N. (Belcher) Burns, 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, after a brief illness.

She was born in Washington, Maine on March 12, 1939, to Viola and James Belcher.

On May 12, 1956, Armajean married the love of her life, Reginald L. Burns, Sr. Together, they raised their family in Union. Educated in local schools, she worked as a certified nursing assistant in various nursing homes in Knox County and a switchboard operator at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Armajean loved nothing more than her family, often sharing stories of her five children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren to anyone who would listen. Her family benefited greatly from her knitting and crocheting talents, keeping warm in the winter months with mittens, hats, sweaters, and afghans. Family often filled her quaint home for weekend dinners, playing cards on the porch, or helping can homegrown vegetables. Friends were equally as important to Armajean, especially later in life. She cherished her time with Doug and Cindy Hall, enjoying chats over coffee and trips to Goodwill. Armajean enjoyed lunch dates with Virginia Flood, Mary Burns, and Josie Austin.

A lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Armajean also volunteered at the local food bank and various community organizations. In her free time, she devoured books at an astonishing rate and completed all the word search books she could get her hands on.

Armajean was predeceased by her beloved husband, Reginald, in 2005; her brothers Ted, George, and Robert, and her sister Ann.

She is survived by her five children, Reginald Burns, Jr. and his wife Kristi of Washington, Lennie Burns and his wife Laura of Union, George Burns and his wife Jenness of Hartland, Vermont, Darlene Hammond and her husband Dana of Somerville, and Marion Burns of Union.

She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Burns of Newton, Massachusetts, Jared Burns and his wife Jennifer of Washington, Erik Hammond of Somerville, Alexandra Ruby and her husband Christopher of Hope, and Max Niles and his wife Chriztel of Fort Hood, Texas, and Hayden Chase of Hartland, Vermont; and seven great-grandchildren, Gavin, Arabelle, Sawyer, Willow, Taylor, Gabrielle, and Izabella.

She is survived by her siblings, James Belcher, Frank Belcher, Jerome Belcher, Norman Belcher, Eva Pitcher, and Mona Cooley, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, with a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date at Lake View Cemetery in Union.
