‘Oceans Of Possibility’ summer reading program for all ages begins June 27 at Rockland Public Library

    ROCKLAND — “Summer reading program is NOT just for kids!” said Rockland Public Library, in a news release.

    Ages 0 – 150 are invited to participate in Rockland Public Library’s Summer Reading adventure. Starting June 18, visit the library to pick up your registration and reading challenge for kids and adults. 

    Rockland Public Library is offering the following:

      

    Ages 18 +  

    -Pick up your reading bingo card and registration form at the library starting June 18  

    -Color the attached sea creature to add to our huge paper aquarium  

    -Find books or audiobooks you love that fit the bingo themes or read something completely new  

    -Pass in your bingo cards by Saturday, Aug 6th to earn a prize  
     

    Any questions can be directed to Librarian Jessie Blanchard. 

     

    For ages 0-18    

    -Pick up your reading log and registrations at the library starting June 18.    

    -Read what you love! – ask Miss Katie for recommendations  

    -Keep track of your reading in your log    

    -Visit the library weekly. Starting June 27, show a librarian your reading log and tell them about the best book or chapters you read that week to earn a prize. (If you visit all six weeks you will get six different prizes.)

    -Pass in your reading log by Saturday, Aug 6 to earn a book to add to your home collection and a chance to win one of our 12 brand new bikes from the Knox Lodge #189 Masons.

    Wednesday, June 29, 3:00 PM, STEM Workshop: LED Fish Learn about circuits & create your own lantern fish card      

    Friday, July 8, 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Touchtank with Herring Gut Learning Center Drop by the library to learn and meet some aquatic life      

    Monday, July 11, 2:00 PM, Kids Lawn Concert: Matt Loosigian      

    Starting July 13 – Wednesdays, 3:00 – 4:40 PM, 4H Oceans Program 5 weeks, for ages 8+ Hands on experiments to learn about our water      

    Thursday, July 28, 2:00 PM, Kids Lawn Concert: Judy Pancoast  

    Tuesday, Aug 9, 2:00 - 3:30 PM, End of Summer Reading Party, lawn games, & presenting of the bikes from Knox Lodge #189 Masons

    *Wednesday, July 13, 10:00 - 11:30 AM – storytime will be outside the Farnsworth Museum for a celebration of life for Maine author & illustrator Ashley Bryan. Storytime with Miss Katie, craft provided by the Farnsworth.  

     

    All Ages Summer Reading Events 

    Ocean iSpy—Sea creatures and seashells take over the display cases for a month-long iSpy challenge. (Every week we’ll have a different checklist of things to find!)  

    Aquarium Collaborative Art Project— What ocean creature, plants, or rocks will you add to the aquarium? Will they be real or imagined? Create your art on paper at home or come to the library throughout July to craft your contribution (we’ll have some supplies) and sea what’s swimming in the aquarium. It’ll be great “for shore”! (Please note that art pieces will not be returned.) 

    Registration in a summer reading program is not a requirement to attend any program.
