Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” screens at Waldo Theatre March 9 and 11

WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre on 916 Main Street will host two screenings of Alfred HItchcock’s Vertigo on Wednesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. and Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
In this tale of suspense, Jimmy Stewart plays a detective forced to retire after his fear of heights causes the death of a fellow officer. He’s hired to prevent the death of an old friend’s wife, but all is not as it seems. Hitchcock’s haunting, compelling masterpiece is widely considered to be one of his masterworks. The film also stars Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes.
The Waldo was commissioned in 1936 as a state-of-the-art movie house and opened in 1937. After closing in 2014, the historic building was saved and renovated by local community members beginning in 2017. Thanks to volunteers, generous donors, and the installation of new technology, The Waldo recently reopened as a performing arts center offering live music, theatre, educational programs, and now movies. The Waldo plans to regularly screen films from a variety of genres on its big screen.
Masks and proof of Covid-19 vaccination are required inside the theater. Adults attending with children who are not yet vaccinated will be asked a series of standard Covid questions.
