Thomaston traffic stop leads to drug, firearm charges
ROCKLAND — A 19-year-old Rockland man was arrested Dec. 8 on multiple charges after his vehicle was stopped by police for erratic driving.
Neal V. Kenney V has been charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, violation of a condition of release and operating without a license.
Kenney appeared in court Dec. 10 where Judge Geoffrey Rushlau set bail at $500 cash.
The state filed a motion to revoke Kenney’s bail since he was on bail conditions when he was arrested.
Rockland Police conducted a bail check on Kenney Dec. 1, due to previous charges, and drugs and several firearms were seized. Kenney was on bail conditions related to drug trafficking in Rockland, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page Dec. 10.
According to the affidavit filed in court by Thomaston Police Officer Dwight Jones Dec. 8, police responded to report of a vehicle headed northbound on Route 1 from Warren that was allegedly all over the road with a driver who was throwing trash out of a window.
Police stopped the vehicle on Main Street in Thomaston. They identified the driver as Kenney who was also driving without a valid license. When police searched the vehicle they found Klonopin pills, a Glock 9 mm handgun, two boxes of ammunition, a drum style magazine for the firearm, a “burner phone” and $950 in cash. Kenney told police that the money came from his trust fund.
Police said that Kenney did not have a prescription for the pills. MDEA Special Agent Max King was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Kenney was arrested on the new charges and transported to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.
Kenney will be on supervised released after he is released from jail and will be ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and cannot possess any firearms, illegal drugs and alcohol. He will also be subject to random searches.
He will appear in court again Jan. 27 for a dispositional conference.
