ROCKLAND — The local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter is looking for feedback about patriots buried in the Tolman Cemetery in Rockland from historians or family members of these men to include in a book which the Lady Knox Chapter is writing.

The book, tentatively titled “Fighting for Freedom, Fighting for Survival,” is scheduled to be published in 2022. It will bring to life the lives and times of forty-one patriots who served either in the American Revolution or the War of 1812 and who are buried in this one little cemetery on a back road. Details will be included about families (parents, spouses and children), community, occupations and military service in addition to genealogical information.

The Lady Knox Chapter restored the Tolman Cemetery in 2017 and secured its designation as a National Historic Site.

This book will encompass the historical context of the early settlement of Thomaston, Rockland and surrounding areas in the District of Maine. To accomplish this, DAR members are combing records, books, manuscripts, websites and gravestones to find out as much as possible about these men.

Input from family members or local historians is greatly appreciated, according to Lady Knox DAR, in a news release.

The family names of the patriots are as follows: Achorn; Barrows; Blackinton; Brewster; Brown; Crockett; Douglas; Fales; Gregory; Healy; Ingraham; Jameson; Jennison; Keen; Killsa; Lovejoy; Manning; Mosman; Nutt; Rankin; Robbins; Spear; Spofford; Tolman; Ulmer; Woster.

Several patriots from one family may have served in the Revolution or the War of 1812.
