CAMDEN —  In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Camden’s Jazz in June has re-tooled its four-day festival in favor of a one-day celebration in November. Headliners the Brubeck Brothers Quartet will present their
celebration of Dave Brubeck’s Centennial on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.

“We had a terrific team that worked for months to put together a wonderful festival … unfortunately, this terrible pandemic changed our plans,” said fest organizer Matt Brown, in a news release. “The good news is, the Brubeck Brothers are coming! As well as a terrific Maine group, Les Sorciers Perdus featuring Mark Tipton. Thanks to Dave and his team, our sponsors, and all the volunteers for their tremendous work. Stay safe, get your tickets for this wonderful night … and stay tuned for news on Jazz in June 2021!”

Last summer, local jazz lovers took a leap of musical faith and produced a several-day/multi-venue festival of live music by national, regional and local jazz performers. This year, the volunteer-driven community enterprise had planned to expand to four days with events at the Camden Opera House and Camden Snow Bowl.

Before the November 14 concert, there will be an early Blue Café on the third floor featuring live music by New Shades of Blue, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, sponsored by the Blue Harbor House Inn. Admission is free.

“Next year we’ll be back to the town-wide format that everyone loved in 2019,” said COH manager Dave Morrison, in the release. “Everyone (staff, volunteers, organizers, sponsors and musicians) was great in pivoting so we could still bring great jazz to the Midcoast in 2020.”

Tickets for Jazz in JuneNovember are $35 for adults, $20 for students, in advance; and $40/$25 at the door. Those who had already purchased tickets for the June 13 concert may transfer them to the new date; get a refund; or donate some or all of their original purchase to Jazz in June, which plans on a full festival in 2021. All Access Pass holders have the same options.

Camden Opera House staff are currently working remotely. Jazz in June ticketholders will be contacted by email or may contact the box office at dernest@camdenmaine.gov. Messages left at the COH box office phone, (207) 236-3154, will be returned.

Tickets are on sale at camdenoperahouse.com. Information will be updated on jazzinjunecamdenme.com and the Jazz in June Facebook page.
