New and returning Five Towns Adult Ed classes start soon

ROCKPORT — Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education has many classes beginning in the coming months.

Here are some highlights for the upcoming weeks:

 CPR/AED/Standard First Aid Recertification class, from 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday, October 21. This class is for those who need to renew the certification they already have. There will also be a full CPR class beginning October 28 for two weeks.

 Genealogy for Beginners begins October 21 for 3 weeks. This class meets from 6 - 8 p.m. Learn about the many resources and ways you can research and learn about your family and ancestors in this fun class with genealogy enthusiast Dorothy Prescott.

 Salsa for Beginners begins on October 21 from 6:30-8 p.m. This 3-week class with dance instructor Katie Tranzillo will get you out and moving on any dance floor. No partner necessary to take this class.

 Sewing – Basic Pattern Fitting begins October 21 and continues for 5 weeks, meeting at 6 - 8:30 p.m. Seamstress Diana Falciani will teach you how to customize the fit of any pattern.

 Carving Signs is a class with woodworker Sherwood Hilt. Sherwood will teach you about carving tools while you make a variety of carved signs. This class meets, from 6 - 8 p.m., for 5 weeks beginning October 22.

 Felted Vessels and More is a one-night class on October 23 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Crafter Donna Vix loves to share ways to make little gifts you can learn to make in just one evening. Kits will be provided which will allow you to make many more things beyond vessels! Donna also teaches a flower-making class on October 30.

 American Sign Language 1 and 2 both begin on October 24, ASL 1 at 5 - 6:30 p.m. and ASL 2 at 6:30-8 p.m. ASL is one of the most used languages in the US. This rigorous, but fun, class is taught by expert ASL instructor Carrie Pierce who also teaches at Universities around Maine.

 Pies! Who doesn’t love pie, and making pie for the holidays? Learn how to make great pies of all kinds from pie-maker Jan Abendroth, who has won many awards for her pies. You can take this class on either October 24 or November 14, from 5 - 8 p.m.

 Did you watch Curling during the last winter Olympics? Learn to Curl lessons are offered by the Belfast Curling Club at several choices of 2-hour sessions: October 27 at 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 1 -3 p.m., with the same two times offered on January 4.
