DAMARISCOTTA — Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring a Maine DEP certification course in Beginning and Advanced Erosion and Sediment Control Practices.

Contractors must take this course to comply with the 2013 statutory requirement to have a certified contractor on all sites within 250 feet of a water body, according to SWCD, in a news release.

The course will be held on April 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, 524 Waldoboro Rd, Damariscotta.  

Cost of the course is $70 and includes morning refreshments, lunch, and training materials. Pre-registration with payment required by April 1.

This class is for excavation contractors, landscapers, well drillers, or other individuals involved with soil disturbance within the shoreland zone and have not yet taken a class.

Content covers best management practices, applicable regulations and standards for projects, such as shoreline riprap and culverts, and natural resource impacts. The instructor will also discuss vegetated buffers, erosion control planning and walk through permitting and planning process.

New information will be provided that has not been presented in past trainings.
