Inara Booker, obituary
ROCKLAND — Inara Booker, 89, passed away February 19, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport. She was surrounded by her loving family and caring staff.
Ina was born November 22, 1929 in Jelgava, Latvia to Dr. Alfred Mednis and Elza (Jansons) Mednis.
Inara spent her early life in Latvia and came to the United States in 1949. She met Bill, her husband of 57 years in 1953. They raised their family in West Dennis, Massachusetts, but their love was the mountains and lakes of Rangeley, Maine where they summered.
Once retired, they moved to Rangeley where they enjoyed time in the outdoors with family and friends skiing, canoeing, and hiking.
Inara was always busy. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed the arts, and loved opera. She had a beautiful singing voice that was enjoyed by many as she played the piano, especially on holidays.
Inara had a passion for helping people and always put others before herself. Her list of volunteer activities is long and varied and incudes the Rangeley Public Library and the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman’s Association.
Everyone around her enjoyed and will deeply miss her grace, elegance, and overwhelming kindness.
She is survived by her daughters, Ingrid Mroz and her husband Bill Mroz of St. George, Maine, and Krista Booker of South Dennis, Massachusetts; her sister Margaret Mednis of Rockland, Maine, and many relatives in Latvia.
She is predeceased by her husband Bill, and her son, Bill Jr.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church in Rockland.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 78 Main Street, Thomaston.
