PORTLAND — The Oceanside boys basketball cinderella season came to an abrupt halt Saturday afternoon in the confines of the Cross Arena formally the Cumberland County Civic Center as they fell to Falmouth by the score of 59-28.

Falmouth led all the way taking a 15-3 first quarter lead and building that to a 23-8 half time score. by the end of the third quarter, the Yachtsman had a 42-15 lead and coasted throughout the final quarter of the season to become the Class A state champions.

Oceanside finished the regular season at season 13-5 finishing fifth and earning a bye into the quarterfinals. There they defeated Messalonskee 64-51 and then knocked off the defending state champion and 18-0 No. 1 Hampden Academy 66-63 to advance to the Class A championship.

Falmouth was led by the Coyne brothers, Thomas and Colin who combined scored almost half the Yachtsmen points. Thomas had 16 points and Colin 11. Matt Wulbrecht had 14 points; Sam Skop eight; Drew Chamberlain, Alex Wissemann and Nick Wissemann two each; and Sean Walsh four.

Falmouth was 15-of-18 (83 percent) and the knocked down two 3-point baskets, one each from the Coyne brothers.

For Oceanside, Keenan Hendricks had five; Nate Raye five; Riley Sprague six; Mike Norton two; Christian Straka two; Sam Atwood five; Nick Mazurek three.

Oceanside was 3-of-3 (100 percent) from the foul line. They had five 3-point baskets, two from Sprague, and one each from Mazurek, Atwood and Hendricks.

Other members of the Mariners team are Josh Peaco, Josh Lutrell, Jacob Bartlett, Andrew King, Nick Tinker, Coby Dorr, Cooper Wirkala, and Steve Robinson. The team is coached by head coach Matt Breen, assistant coaches Darren Randall and Larry Reed.

The Mariners graduate eight players this year, co-captains Hendricks and Mazurek, Sprague, Luttrell, Bartlett, King, Straka, and Robinson.
