William B. Lowden, obituary
UNION — William B. Lowden, 76, died unexpectedly at home, Saturday, May 10, 2025 with his family at his side.
Born in Damariscotta, November 2, 1948, he was the son of Clifton and Beatrice Barstow Lowden. Educated locally he was a 1967 graduate of Warren High School.
Bill was an extremely talented mechanic and could fix anything that came his way. He began his career before he even graduated high school working as a mechanic and equipment operator for C.R. Wallace and Sons. Over the years he continued as a mechanic and truck driver for many different companies, including for himself from 1979 to 2000 when he operated Bill Lowden Seafood. Bill finished his career, retiring in 2024 from RSU 40 after serving as the lead mechanic there.
When he wasn’t busy at work, Bill could be found working on and rebuilding cars and trucks at home. With his grandson, Alec, at his side, Bill was especially proud to be teaching him all the tricks of the trade. For many years, Bill has enjoyed the company of Phyllis Brown, the love of his life. Together they had many adventures, going to the races, and staying up late playing cribbage and canasta.
Always a friendly and helpful man, to know Bill was to be like family. He took many neighborhood kids under his wing, providing guidance and stability and teaching them along the way. He loved his large, blended family and they were his number one priority. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by a very special aunt, Edna Verney; Bill is survived by his long-time companion, Phyllis Brown of Union; his daughter, Lois Anderson and her husband Larry Jensen of Warren; his son, Michael Swanson and his wife Deb of Arizona; his siblings, Bruce Lowden, Robin Corey both of Charleston, Betty Leforge of Bucksport; his granddaughter, Katie Swanson; great-grandchildren, Amarianna and Sharif; many nieces and nephews; Phyllis’ family who considered him their own and will miss him dearly, including Michael Brown and his wife Julie, Michelle Billings and her husband Pete; and grandchildren, Alec Brown, Macey Dinsmore, Laticia Billings, Olivia Brown, Nicole Brown and Taylor Packard.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 12 noon, at East Union Cemetery, Miller Road, Union; followed by a celebration of life from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Warren Odd Fellows Hall, Route 90 in Warren.
