Smoke and flames in early morning at West Appleton Road home

APPLETON — Early morning flames drove at least one person from a house in Appleton, Wednesday morning.
The occupant reported to Knox Regional Communications that her bedroom was on fire at approximately 3:20 a.m, Jan. 15, 2025. Upon arrival, firefighters reported flames visible through the roof of the 2.5 story residence at 2372 West Appleton Road.
Responding units included Appleton, Union, Washington, Liberty, Hope, and Searsmont. Union Ambulance and a deputy from the Knox County Sheriff's Office also stood by.
For Union firefighters, this is the third structure fire they've responded to in approximately three days. The first was a camper fire in Warren on the night of Jan. 12, followed by a lunchtime fire in Union on Jan. 13.
The West Appleton Road command was terminated at 6:45 a.m., at which time all firefighters returned to their home stations for an hour or so of gear cleaning and reassembling.
The Appleton Fire Chief conversed with the Fire Marshal's Office via cellphone from the scene. A woodstove was being assessed as a possible origin of the flames.
