Wesley R. Hooper, Sr., obituary
WARREN — Wesley R. Hooper, Sr., 63, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly in his sleep, Friday, November 22, 2024.
Born in Rockland, November 11, 1961, he was the son of Donald and Geraldine Lovejoy Hooper. Educated locally, he was a graduate of Georges Valley High School.
Wes began his career as a Glazier, working alongside Tommy Wheaton at Speedy Glass. He then went on to work at Pen Bay Glass with Steve LeClerc before establishing his own business, Wes’s Glass. For over 30 years, Wes put his heart and soul into his business, always taking care of his customers. They often raved about his professional and friendly service, his timeliness and how he always went above and beyond for the job.
When he wasn’t busy working, Wes loved to soak up the sun, working around his property. He took great pride in his landscaping and keeping his property looking immaculate. He has constructed ponds at several different locations he has lived over the years, where he enjoyed feeding the fish and listening to frogs at night. He often stood in his doorway at night with a big spotlight to watch the deer in the yard. He could be heard exclaiming ‘Look at that sucker!’ whenever he caught sight of a big one. His family said he was the grill master and loved to cook up a good ‘Wes Burger’ for friends and family alike. Even after enjoying a big burger, Wes often enjoyed a late-night snack of ice cream straight out of the carton.
He loved motors, hard work and his garage. He could often be found rocking out in his garage to his favorite tunes, playing darts, cleaning up shop or washing one of his many ‘toys’. Over the years he has enjoyed owning Harleys, four-wheelers, snowmobiles, a corvette and several trucks.
He was handy and could build just about anything. He built his first garage for his business by hand with the help of a few friends, a playground for his kids’, which he of course added his extra flair to by attaching a slide to the top so they could slide into the pool on hot summer days. More recently with the help of his brother Jimmy and a few other friends, he was proud to have completed building his cabin-style house that he called ‘camp’.
Known as ‘Snoop’ or ‘Wes Man’ by his friends, he was often thought of as a tough guy or a serious man. But Wes knew how to have fun. When his kids were younger, he enjoyed pulling them behind the snowmobile or four-wheeler, tubing at Harjula’s Farm and towing them back up, chasing them around the yard at night making scary noises while wearing a Halloween mask or spraying them with the hose.
His family was his number one priority, and he was always thinking about them before himself. He insisted they use a high-quality glass cleaner, gifting them a bottle of it each Christmas, which was wrapped in the brown paper he used to transport glass for his jobs. He loved spending time with and spoiling his grandson. It was no surprise when Wes bought him a Fisher Price Harley Davidson motorcycle for his first Christmas. He also had fun giving him ‘horseback rides’ on his back, playing ‘monsters’ and taking him for a spin up and down the driveway on the four-wheeler.
Wes’s passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be sadly missed.
