THOMASTON — Henry Knox is calling for a few good men, women and children to join him onstage!

Although the Watts Hall Community Players’ summer production has been postponed, the musical, Count Me In, is still moving forward — just at a slower and somewhat different pace. Auditions will be quite different as well, according to Players, in a news release.

Count Me In is very much an ensemble show with only five leading or supporting roles. The large, multi-age ensemble is highlighted in 8 of the 10 musical numbers and provides many opportunities for solo singing and significant speaking parts. To reinforce the ensemble nature of the production, the entire cast will take part in the process of shaping this new musical, bringing words and lyrics to the stage for the very first time. It will also be the first time a Watts Hall Community Players’ play is in production without a set deadline.

It is far too early to project when it will be safe for cast and audience to gather and enjoy this production together, but it is anticipated that a schedule might be as follows, according to Players. During the months of May and June there will be regular on-line workshops/rehearsals where brainstorming and experimentation will be the focus of scene work, music and movement. These sessions will typically be an hour and a half long and held twice a week.

Workshop/rehearsal sessions will continue over the summer but with a much lighter schedule to be determined by the group – perhaps twice a month. In the early fall the ensemble and production team will decide what, if any, small performance will be presented at that time based on health, safety and the readiness of the show. A light schedule of workshopping will continue throughout the fall and winter, resuming a full rehearsal schedule in the spring with a complete performance run in late June/early July 2021. This schedule can change dramatically depending on the progress of the virus, the progress of the show, and the needs of the ensemble.

Anyone who would like to be member of the Ensemble need only express interest by contacting Daryl Hahn at darylhahn@gmail.com.

Those wanting to audition for one of the five primary roles may schedule a virtual audition during the week of May 4. Auditioners will be asked to learn one of the songs from the show with musical help from Sean Fleming. Contact Daryl to arrange a time for an audition and receive the music to be learned.
