Wall fire in Camden restaurant draws area firefighters downtown
CAMDEN — Firefighters were called to the Camden harbor front, to Blaze Restaurant on Bay View Landing, for a fire that was creeping up the back wall of the kitchen.
In addition to Camden firefighters, mutual aid was immediately implemented, with Hope, Lincolnville and Rockport fire departments also responding, as they do automatically when structure fires are under way in neighboring towns.
The fire was discovered at 5 p.m., July 24, and quickly extinguished by Camden firefighters.
According to Fire Chief Chris Farley, a slow, smoldering fire was building behind a shelf that had been improperly installed over a stove and a deep kitchen fryer.
Firefighters tackled the fire by opening up the wall and using extinguishers from the kitchen and Engine 4.
