UPDATED: Waldoboro restaurant catches fire on Easter

    April 18 update. The fire marshals office returned Friday, April 17, to its investigation into the Waldoboro restaurant fire, which occurred April 12. An investigator was assigned to the case with intention of being on scene April 14, which follows April 13's inclement weather.  Then, the investigator was one of many officials pulled away April 15 to assess a mill explosion in Jay. 

    WALDOBORO — (April 13) The investigation continues into a fire at Captain's Fresh Idea Restaurant, in Waldoboro, Sunday afternoon, April 12.

    Though the restaurant had not yet opened for the season, the owner had been at the restaurant earlier in the day, according to Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer.

    Lincoln County dispatch received reports of fire at 2:52 p.m., initiating a response by Waldoboro, Damariscotta, Friendship, Union, and Warren fire departments, as well as Waldoboro EMS and Waldoboro PD.

    No one was hurt during the fire, which rendered the building a total loss.


     

    WALDOBORO — Waldoboro Fire Department and its mutual aid spent Easter afternoon battling a fire at the Captain’s Fresh Idea/Wicked Good Restaurant on Route 1.

    At times, Route 1 was either closed completely, or opened to one shoulder as Knox County firefighters from Union, Warren, and Friendship joined Lincoln County firefighters in extinguishing the flames inside the eat-in/take-out restaurant near the Waldoboro and Warren town line. 

    According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the business had been in operation since 1987.
