ROCKPORT — The fellowship hall at Nativity Lutheran Church, Old County Road in Rockport, was transformed into a meal packaging center, Saturday morning, March 23.

More than seventy volunteers from Nativity, local high schools, churches, nonprofits and the general public came together to package 10,000 meals which will be distributed locally through AIO’s Childhood Hunger Program and Food Shelf.

“There was such an outpouring of volunteer support that the packing was complete in under two hours” said the Church.

Equipment and meal supplies were provided by The Outreach Program, and the event was funded by partial proceeds of Nativity’s annual Harvest Festival and member offerings.

More than fifty volunteers donned hairnets and plastic gloves to help pack “10,000 Meals for Midcoast Maine” on four assembly lines at an event recently hosted by Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport.

A total of seventy volunteers from Camden Hills and Oceanside High Schools, Area Interfaith Outreach, local churches, and the community participated to create the packaged meals which will be distributed locally by AIO through their Child Hunger Program and their Food Shelf.

The event was managed by The Outreach Program, a nonprofit based in Iowa with a New England regional manager.

The event was funded through partial proceeds of Nativity’s annual Harvest Festival and member offerings.

“Nativity is grateful for the community’s support of the effort to relieve hunger in Midcoast Maine,” the Church said.
