FRIENDSHIP — A construction company based in Massachusetts is under investigation by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following a workplace fatality that occurred in Friendship, Feb. 7, 2023.

At least one Friendship firefighter responded immediately to the scene, at 15 Main Street, after a 2 p.m. call to 911 report of a male having fallen from a roof. Further accounts stated that he’d been electrocuted. CPR was initiated by bystanders, but was discontinued upon arrival and assessment of Waldoboro EMS.

Ted Fitzgerald, regional director public affairs for the U.S. Dept. of Labor, said Feb. 8 that OSHA’s investigation of the employer, Pacific Construction Services, Inc. of Framingham, Massachusetts, remains open.

“Its purpose is to determine whether or not there were any violations of applicable workplace safety standards in this situation,” he said, Feb. 9. “OSHA will gather whatever information it needs to make a determine if there were violations or not.”

Fitzgerald said that if the inspection identifies violations, OSHA could issue citations to and propose penalties for the employer.

“It’s too early to estimate a completion date for this inspection,” he said.
