UPDATED: McMahon Builders, George C. Hall escape elimination






















On the brink of elimination in Little League softball in Thomaston and Rockland June 1, the fourth seed McMahon Builders put their rally caps on and hoped for the best against the fifth seed Islanders, while George C. Hall topped St. George 15-9.
McMahon Builders 8, Islanders 7
At the conclusion of one of two preliminary games of the 2014 Oceanside Little League Softball playoffs, the McMahon Builders rallied from down, 4-2, and escaped elimination by besting the Islanders 8-7 on a walk-off single.
Offensively for the McMahon Builders, Hannah Benner doubled while Alexa Barstow, Emily Wotton and Katherine McCue chalked up two singles a piece. Both Carleigh and Carmen Pease had one single.
For the Islanders, Lily Warren (4 singles) and Jazmyn Robishaw (single, triple) led the way at the plate. Hope Cluff also tacked on two singles, while Davis and Hannah Newton each had one single.
Newton and Benner worked the pitching circle for their respective teams.
The McMahon Builders will now take on number one seed Kenniston Machine on Monday, June 2 at George C. Hall Field in Rockland, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Islanders were eliminated.
George C. Hall 15, St. George 9
In the second preliminary softball playoff game for Oceanside Little League, third seed George C. Hall topped sixth seed St. George 15-9.
St. George scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings, while chalking up one in the fifth. George C. Hall scored nine runs in the first, five in the second and one in the fourth.
George C. Hall was led at the plate by Gabby Straka’s double that drove in a run and a key hit from Julia Bartlett. Lil Judecki, Drew Simmons and Katherine Freeman worked the pitcher’s cirlce for George C. Hall.
For St. George, Chloe Simmons and Seana Montgomery had key base hits, while Simmons pitched a complete game in the circle.
With the victory, George C. Hall will now take on second seed Coppola on Monday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Thomaston Little League Field. St. George was eliminated.
