United Midcoast Charities to honor 2024 Community Champions at celebration, Aug. 22
BELFAST — The Belfast Yacht Club & Event Center will be the site of the United Midcoast Charities’ third annual summer celebration, Thursday, August 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
UMC will honor their 2024 Community Champions and announce the recipient of this year’s Sani Award for Philanthropic Excellence, a community member who has made exceptional contributions to the organization and the entire Midcoast region.
Some 42 percent of residents in the Midcoast earn too much to qualify for government aid but too little to cover the cost of living. UMC’s grantees provide an invaluable safety net for people who work hard but cannot make ends meet.
“UMC has a profound awareness of Midcoast nonprofits and their missions, historically offering strong partnerships and a never-ending dedication to helping the less fortunate in our area.” — Grant Recipient

“We invited everyone to join us for this special event,” said Board Chair Jim Hengerer, in a news release. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributes to our efforts, and we expect a beautiful evening celebrating our donors, sharing the impact of our agency partners, and kicking off our fundraising for the 2025 grant cycle.”
Guests will enjoy food and cocktails by E. Wales Hospitality, company, and a silent auction featuring everything from handmade wine glasses or a round of golf to a dine-and-stay package at the Rockport Harbor Hotel or a guided e-bike tour through Acadia.
The auction goes live on August 1 and will be available online at unitedmidcoastcharities.org and in-person the night of the event. All proceeds will benefit the more than 40 partner agencies that UMC supports each year that address the needs of Waldo and Knox County residents within the focus areas of food, housing, health & safety, and economic security.
Tickets are $75 each and are available now at unitedmidcoastcharities.org/tickets
