Two people injured following vehicle crash at Rockland’s Maverick-North Main street intersection
ROCKLAND – Two people were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center following a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Maverick and North Main streets, in Rockland, Tuesday, Aug. 10, at approximately 12 p.m.
According to Rockland Police Sgt. Ken Smith, a vehicle driven by Hana Galkowski, 22, of South Thomaston, was stopped at a stop sign on North Main Street before allegedly pulling onto Maverick Street into the path of an eastbound 1996 White Ford F-0150 driven by Elizabeth Smith, 21, of Union.
As Galkowski began making her left turn onto Maverick, she allegedly entered Smith’s path as Smith traveled straight. Smith’s Ford then ran into the driver side door of Galkowski’s vehicle triggering Galkowski’s curtain side airbag to deploy, said police.
Galkowski, who was wearing a seatbelt, and her passenger were both transported to PBMC with minor injuries.
Smith, who was not wearing seatbelt, according to police, and a young child (in 5 point harness car seat) were evaluated on scene by Rockland EMS, and not transported.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to disabling damage.
Sgt. Ken Smith is investigating the crash. Rockland Police was assisted by Rockland Fire Department.
The investigation is ongoing for possible charges.
