Two Knox County Commissioners will not seek reelection in November
ROCKLAND — With Election Day, November 5, 2024 on the not-so-distant horizon, candidates seeking office are getting organized for a campaign season. And in Knox County, two seats on the three-person Board of Commissioners are opening up.
Currently, Commissioners Richard Parent, Jr., and Sharyn L. Pohlman occupy those seats, but both have indicated they are not planning to run for office again.
Parent, of Warren, has been a Knox County Commissioner for 16 years, representing District 2, which comprises Appleton, Cushing, Friendship, Union, Warren and Washington. He is amongst the longest serving commissioners in Knox County, and is included on a list that dates back to 1860.
Pohlman, of Camden, represents District 3 and serves Camden, Hope, Isle au Haut, Matinicus Isle Plantation, North Haven, Owls Head, Rockport, Vinalhaven, and the Unorganized Territories of Criehaven and Muscle Ridge islands.
Commissioner Ed Glaser, of Rockland, serves District 1, which includes Rockland, Saint George, South Thomaston and Thomaston. His term is not over until December 2026.
Commissioner Parent, whose terms is up at the end of December, said he will not seek reelection. Pohlman, whose term is also over at the end of December, said she, too, will be vacating her seat.
“At this time I am not planning on running for another term,” she said, Feb. 27.
Wendy Galvin, administrative assistant to the Knox County Administrator, said Feb. 27, “I have not been made aware of anyone taking out papers to run.”

Non-party petitions and consent forms can be downloaded from there. The filing deadline for Non-Party Candidate’s Consent and Certification of Unenrollment and Non-Party Nomination petitions to be received by Maine’s Division of Elections is 5 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024.
