Turning Point: An Evening of Songs and Stories to be held in Hope
HOPE — Turning Point: An Evening of Songs and Stories will be held Friday, Oct. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., at The Big Red Barn, Hope Orchards, 434 Camden Road, Hope.
With a theme of "Turning Points," this annual event will feature Pixie Lauer and David Foley sharing folk, blues, and original music. Others will share stories, songs and poetry. Apple pie, etc.
Sweet Tree Arts and Hope Orchards are once again collaborating to offer an evening of creative expression. This event is a departure from the usual autumn story slam. However, as with a story slam, there is a theme.
"Turning Point" rings true for our community in many ways," said Hope Orchards, in a news release.
Pixie Lauer and David Foley will provide folk, blues, and original tunes. In addition, other music, story telling, poetry reading, etc., is in the works. Apple desserts during intermission.
"This promises to be a relaxed and fairly informal evening, with about 60 seats in the audience; space is limited.," said the release.
Purchase tickets at Sweet Tree Arts, the orchard stand (Fri, Sat, Sun; 9 to 5); or at the door.
More About Pixie and David:
Pixie Lauer is a musician and songwriter living in Alna. She grew up in Camden, where she studied with musicians such as Gordon Bok and Sarah Grey. She’s been in several well-regarded groups, including “Different Shoes” and “Well Seasoned.” “Different Shoes” released two albums, and Pixie recorded and released a solo album. She has toured extensively around the United States, and accompanies her warm alto vocals with guitars and mandolin.
David Foley lives in Northport. He has played and sung since age fourteen, and might be starting to get the hang of it. He studied guitar with musician Cindy Kallet, and has played with Maine musicians including Will Brown, Kat Logan, Nick Apollonio, Ed Geis, Judy McMahon, Mia Mantello, and others. He has been overjoyed to play with Pixie for several years now, adding baritone vocals, guitars, bouzouki, and mandola. Together, they blend instruments and vocals on original songs, Americana, folk, Celtic, blues, and more.
