TENANTS HARBOR — The Jackson Memorial Library in Tenants Harbor will feature the works of Swanville artist Jude Nickerson from June 2 through July 1. The library will display a variety of pieces, including her well-known sheep and coastal paintings.

Nickerson is a full-time practicing artist here in Midcoast Maine. A graduate of Maine College of Art in Portland, her history includes artist in residence at Toddy Pond School in Swanville, as well as an artist in residence with special needs individuals. Jude has been the recipient of many awards, including the Maine State Arts and Humanities Grant and she was a National Endowment of the Arts recipient.

A more recent work, Back Blueberry Field, was purchased by a supporter of Maine Farmland Trust at a benefit auction for that organization.

"Art has to be felt to be understood... a Braille for the soul."

Her special interest in plein air painting takes Jude to Monhegan Island during the summers and her sense of place is fortified by frequent sailing along Maine's coast. For the past five years Nickerson has been owner and artist of Raven's Nest Studio Gallery in Swanville.

The Jackson Memorial Library is a nonprofit private library serving the town of St. George. They provide enrichment programs for all ages in the community.
