Susan L. Morse Sims, obituary

Susan L. (Morse) Sims went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the age of 62.  She was born May 16, 1956 to Richard and Vera (Pease) Morse.  She grew up in Thomaston, Maine, graduating from Georges Valley High School in 1974.  Following high school, she served four years in the United States Army, where she met John Sims, whom she married May 11, 1979.  During their 33 year marriage, they lived in Hawaii and Virginia while John continued to serve in the army, finally settling in Jonesport, Maine, where they worked side by side until John’s passing in 2012.  Most recently, Susan had been residing in Ellsworth.

She was a proud member of the American Legion, and a patriotic supporter of all veterans.  In recent years she participated in placing Memorial Day flags at the veterans cemetery in Augusta. 

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.  She is survived by one son, Stephen Sims and his partner, Jennie Turchi, of Southwest Harbor.  Also, her beloved grandson, Devin Sims.  Three sisters, Barbara Carter and her husband Allen of Thomaston, Patty Bowman and her husband John of Idaho; Gena Ahlberg and her husband Scott of Gardiner; two brothers; Clarence Morse of Owls Head, and Jeffrey Morse and his wife Maura of Thomaston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by her close friend and caregiver, Jeanne Poirier of Ellsworth. 

At Susan’s request, there will be no services.  The family would like to thank the hospice staff who provided assistance and comfort during her final weeks.  And special appreciation to Susan’s brother Clarence and her friend Jeanne, whose care and commitment made it possible to honor Susan’s wish to remain in her own home until her passing.  Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or The American Legion (Grave Flag Program), 5 Verti Drive, Winslow, ME 04901-0727.
